About me

Since 2022 I’ve had the role of UX Lead running a team at the University of York, a leading Russell Group university with a mission to be a institution for public good. I do three things really well. Research, design and service design. Past and present employers enjoy the versatility I add, an end-to-end UX’er tackling high-level holistic problems through the principles of great design thinking.

A sample of my work from the University of York and previous workplaces can be found under my latest work.

I’m happy at work when
What provides me endless satisfaction is when I’m working on real problems and get to interact with real people in that problem space throughout the process. I think it’s incredibly important to take time and really understand the humans we are designing for. My craft is infinitely better as a result. I love to have ownership of my process but I’m not one for working solo. I love to bring people along the ride with me. Because ten brains are better than one right?

I love projects which provide variety. Specialising in end to end UX, I excel in everything from research discovery to solution design and implementation. It’s why I present as a UX generalist, because I’m just as passionate about user journey mapping, as I am crafting that latest research survey. Whilst designing that pixel perfect screen for the latest product I’m working on is always a happy place.

I particularly love working on projects and services with a digital and physical aspect to them, where exceptional research and service design intersect. Teams appreciate my versatility, leadership and business understanding. Seamlessly donning multiple hats to drive key outcomes forward.

My Skill Set

I’m a highly capable UX generalist with a combination of UX design, research and service design skills tailored to deliver results across a variety of industries and tasks. It goes without saying I’m a whizz with Figma, can rustle up an interactive prototype and run impactful usability testing. Whilst keenly able to make research insights pop with outstanding storytelling.

Awards & Recognition
I’m incredibly honoured to have my work recognised by others
Spare time: Traveling
I love to travel, I feel it’s so important to experience different cultures and ways of thinking. It’s the perfect reset every time time I go away and rarely do I come back without plenty of inspiration to take into my work.

I try to visit two countries a year. A city break and sunny escape for relaxation is the ideal mix. When adventure strikes you’ll find me traveling down the US west coast or exploring some large buddhas in Hong Kong.

My guilty pleasure. Nothing brings me more joy than going around a supermarket abroad, surely I’m not alone?
Spare time: Fitness
I really enjoy working out so you’ll regularly find me in the gym a few times a week. I’ve done this for around 6 years and won’t be hanging up my workout shoes yet. I do it mainly for health reasons and simply because it makes me feel good. If somethings on my mind, or need that much needed rest between a creative challenge. A workout is normally the perfect antidote.
Spare time: Cooking
I love to cook, my go to is savoury and definitely a classic although I do have sweet tooth. We do have a little household rivalry on who is cooking, but i’m definitely the better chef. I’ve been known to eat a full tin of brownies to myself. So you can probably understand why I try to steer clear of baking.
My Superpower: Dyslexia
I’m Dyslexic so you may find a typo or two. But, it’s never held me back. In fact I think it’s my greatest superpower and why I’m a great UX designer and researcher. It allows me to see the world and peoples problems within it a little differently from everybody else.
Did you know over 40% of self-made millionaires are dyslexic and the dyslexic ADA suggest creativity, empathy, imagination, curiosity and ability to see the bigger picture as some of the biggest dyslexic strengths.
Some of my favourite books and podcasts
I’ve always been entrepreneurial. It’s probably why I love service design and naturally gravitate towards end-to-end experience thinking. You'll see this passion reflected in what I've been reading and listening to.
